Convenient and Equitable Composting in RVA

What Is a Sliding Scale?

A sliding scale is used to offer services at varying price options to adjust for the needs or income of individuals. The service itself is the same across the scale. As a subscriber, you can opt to pay a higher monthly rate if you can afford it, or you can select a lower price that’s made available because of the sliding scale. Choosing a higher tier means we can offer lower prices and gives us the resources we need to make Enrich a sustainable service in our beautiful home of Richmond.

How much should I pay?

We have 3 Tiers for paying. Below are some guidelines to give thought to when signing up, however sliding scale tiers are up to your discretion to choose when signing up. It is also editable if your situation changes.

Enrich Compost believes Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color are owed reparations and encourages BIPOC to choose Tier 3 when signing up.

Why sliding scale?

Enrich Compost wants to be inclusive and accessible for folks. Our mission is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and landfill waste by offering a convenient pickup service but if that service isn’t affordable, it doesn’t help the environment or the community of Richmond. We believe in mutual aid and are trying to be a business that does a lot more good than harm in the current capitalistic structure. We are open for discussion and feedback always. If you are unable to pay the supported tier but would like to subscribe, please reach out to us via email so we can work something out.

What are the pickup options?

Choose from 1 Bucket picked up on a monthly basis, or Biweekly pickups of 1-2 buckets. You may choose 2 buckets picked up Biweekly to accommodate for 1 bucket’s worth per week!

Composting in Richmond, VA!

Our world is seeing the devastating effects of climate change every day. Temperatures are rising, oceans are heating up, and extreme weather conditions are becoming the norm. Greenhouse gases are speeding up climate change, and unfortunately people are attributing to this. When organic waste (food & lawn scraps, paper products) is thrown into landfills with garbage, methane is produced, thus attributing to global warming. Our mission is to reduce the levels of greenhouse gas produced by diverting food from landfills. We are educating people about food waste and keeping carbon in the ground by creating compost. When you divert the organic waste, it benefits the planet- we are here to help Earth's natural recycling system occur.

Landfills are filling up. Recycling programs have been established. Composting is the next step in fixing our climate change problem. Watch this quick video to understand the importance of compost.
